Titel
Thin film developments for new companies
Abstract
Photovoltaics are a fast growing market with ample opportunities for new companies. At the moment, photovoltaic energy does not contribute much to the world wide demand of electricity. It is therefore still a niche market which is stimulated by government policies through direct and indirect incentives and subsidies. These incentives bridge the gap between the market price for electricity from conventional energy sources and the production costs for photovoltaic electricity. Three major technologies are presently being implemented in thin-film photovoltaics (CIS, CdTe, a-Si/qc-Si). From these technologies, only a Si/qc-Si is currently available for new companies. The other two technologies are restricted due to a lack of qualified equipment and process know-how. The presented work shows the main technologies in thin film photovoltaic, their availability for new companies and key figures in terms of investment, revenue and technology.
