Abstract

The Integrated E-Learning Development Environment (IEDE) designed by Fraunhofer IGD-Rostock supports specialists and practitioners in developing E-Learning offers. The process model ROME provides information about the ideal type of development process for E-Learning offers. A collection of standard CSCW tools facilitates synchronous and asynchronous communication between users within or outside of project teams and the workflow management component implements the process of developing E-Learning offers and supports its application onto real development projects. This work designs the navigational paths through IEDE, so that the user can use the application according to its information requirements and tasks. The navigational structure provides different views relevant for the different users of IEDE and integrates the components Informationsystem, Workflow-Management, Counseling, Communication-Cooperation and Helpsystem respectively. The first part of this work presents current Web Engineering and Modelling methods and compares the concepts providing comprehensive approaches relevant for developing navigational structures. On this base an appropiate modelling method is chosen, which meets the requirements of complex web applications like IEDE. The second part of this work applies this method exemplarily to a subset of functionality of IEDE and close with a navigational structure model as a first suggested solution. This model provides unique navigational guidelines for developing the user interface.
