Titel
Planning and erecting factories for mass manufacturing of thin film photovoltaics
Abstract
Thin Film photovoltaics have long served a niche market and have been driven mostly by research and design needs (e.g. from architects). Recent developments show, that thin film photovoltaics will overcome certain barriers, which have slowed down the introduction to the mass market. Currently medium sized factories (appr. 40 MW production capacity per year) are being built and large factories (e.g. 120 MWp/a) are currently in the planning and configuration phase. OC Oerlikon Balzers is a turn-key solution provider for thin film photovoltaic factories. The process technology offers the possibility to manufacture modules with a tandem cell, consisting of a silicon amorphous and microcrystalline cell. This will enhance the efficiency of futere modules to 12%. The presented work will show, how the planning process can be improved through the use of simulation analysis to bring thin film photovoltaics from a laboratory state to mass manufacturing.
