Titel
Hybrid integration technology on polymer platform
Abstract
A hybrid integration technology on a polymer platform integrating polymer waveguides with optoelectronic devices such as laser diode and photodetector is described. Main issues including optical coupling from laser diode to waveguide, from waveguide to photodiode, and from fibre to waveguide as well as device assembly are discussed. Good coupling efficiencies between optical polymer waveguide and the optoelectronic devices are demonstrated. Simple alignment is possible using a vertical coupling scheme or butt-joint coupling and passive alignment for fibre- chip coupling. This technology may also be used for optical interconnection, optical transmitter, optical channel monitor in WDM networks, wavelength meter, optical mini-spectrometer, optical receiver including D(Q)PSK, and various sensor types.
