Titel
Material development for laser sintering of silicon carbide
Abstract
Laser sintering is an efficient and promising technique for manufacturing ceramic prototypes rapidly. After outlining the present development status considering as example silicon infiltrated silicon carbine (SiSiC), current aspects of material development are desribed. By using finer SiC starting powders and by an additional doping with carbon, the SiC/Si ratio in the mircostructure can be raised significantly, resulting in an increase of flexural strength of the material to the general level of conventionally produced SiSiC.
