"Smarter Wohnen NRW" 1 is a project where Fraunhofer IMS, Fraunhofer ISST and the German housing company "Hattinger Wohnstätten e.V." work together to show that new services in the field of home automation can be realized at low cost.
The value-added services are devided in the following groups
· security e.g. fire protection or housebreaking protection
· cared living for handicapped or elderly people
· comfort and entertainment including multimedia and visualisation solutions
· facility management, e.g. analysing water, power or heating consumption.
The aim has been to develop this system for dwellings and the mass market. So, hard restrictions on pricing, the modularity of the solution and retrofitting possibilities must be solved in order to introduce this new technology to the market.
The developed system architecture is called KNX-Campus-Network. It is a novel concept for interconnecting devices located in different homes. Special diagnostic functionalities in the KNX make it possible to easily identify errors, misconfiguration or failures.
