Title

Thermo-mechanical material models for components of engines and power plants

Abstract
In this paper material models are presented that have been developed at the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials (IWM) for thermo-mechanical applications. One the one hand deformation models are addressed which allow for the description of rate-dependent cyclic and monotonic plasticity under various loading conditions. One the other hand models for the prediction of cycles to failure under thermo-mechanical fatigue loading are considered. They are based on fracture mechanics approaches. In both cases the numerical implementation and the strategy to determine the parameters are commented in short and results of the adjustment of the models are shown for some materials. The application of the models to components of engines (namely an exhaust manifold) and powerplants (namely a dissimilar girth joint in a pipeline) are shown. The component simulations are compared to experimental results.
