Abstract
Eine flexibel per Pulver- oder Sol/Gel-Technik umsetzbare Synthese gibt neuartige Al2O3-Filterkeramiken mit folgenden Vorteilen: 1. höchste Permeabilität durch runde Porenform bei hoher offener Porosität (40 - 55 %), 2. hochgradige Defektfreiheit verbessert Trenngrenzen und erhöht die Festigkeit (80 MPa bei 40 % Porosität), 3. beste chemische und thermische Stabilität der Porenstruktur (Korund für Poren < 10 nm).

 

A unified synthesis, which can also be achieved through advanced powder processing or as a sol/gel approach (on an aq. or org. basis), enables the prepn. of new Al2O3-based filtration ceramics with pores of 1 nm up to greater than 200 nm which present the following advantages: (I) highest permeability due to round pores (no platelet particles and slit-like pores) as well as high open porosity (40-55%), (II) improved cut-off characteristics and increased strength (80 MPa) due to defect-free technol., (III) very good chem. and thermal stability of the pore microstructure. These new ceramics, with pores greater than 10nm, consist of highly pure corundum (.alpha.-Al2O3); smaller pores are formed at lower annealing temps. yielding an amorphous or .gamma.-Al2O3 form which can be distinguished from the known state-of-the-art by the equiaxed shape of the synthesized particles.
