DE 102006031206 A1 UPAB: 20070911 NOVELTY - Preparation of a calibration aerosol for the particle number concentration of airborne particles, comprises supplying heat over a warming-up device (4) to provide an inert gas area with a stable saturated steam atmosphere of the volume (V1) with the calibration aerosol component and the temperature (T1); flowing the aerosol and/or aerosol precursor substance into the adjacently arranged second container (3); and conducting the so-produced calibration aerosol over a discharge line from the second container to its pre-determined place after a time period, after opening of the aperture. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Preparation of a calibration aerosol for the particle number concentration of airborne particles, comprises supplying heat over a warming-up device (4) to provide an inert gas area, which is arranged above a suitable liquid (5) containing a calibration aerosol component, present in a locked container (2), with a stable saturated steam atmosphere of the volume (V1) with the calibration aerosol component and the temperature (T1); flowing the aerosol and/or aerosol precursor substance into the adjacently arranged second container (3) or evenly distributing itself between the locked container and the second container, where a locked aperture, which is arranged at the gas area with the stable saturated steam atmosphere, is opened so that a flow-throughable connection to the adjacently arranged container with the volume (V2) and the temperature (T0 less than T1) is made; and conducting the so-produced calibration aerosol with a given particle number concentration of the calibration aerosol component over a discharge line from the second container to its pre-determined place after a time period, after opening of the aperture. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for a calibration aerosol generator (1) for the production of a calibration aerosol with a defined particle number concentration of a calibration aerosol component, comprising the locked container and the second container, which are flowed through with the inert gas and the calibration aerosol component and each of one of which can be locked individually and together, relative to the gas diffusion into the environment, and the locked container is arranged adjacent to a warming-up device for the heat exchange, is designed for the uptake of the suitable liquid containing the calibration aerosol component and also designed with the gas area that is arranged above the suitable liquid and with at least a lockable supply line for the inert gas, where the two containers can be connected with one another over the lockable aperture in such a manner that the inert gas with the calibration aerosol component is supplyable over the aperture into the second container, and the second container is equipped with at least a lockable discharge line for the calibration aerosol. USE - The calibration aerosol is useful for the particle number concentration of airborne particles (claimed). The calibration aerosol is useful in sensor technology, and detection and monitoring of chemically- and biologically active materials, gases and aerosols, in research, environment and industries. ADVANTAGE - The calibration aerosol generator with which a defined particle number concentration (preferably less than 10 microns) of a calibration aerosol component is manufactured, thus the generator is simple and economical.
