Abstract
Visual mining has been identified as a powerful tool in the retail industry for analyzing consumer buying patterns and forming marketing programs to take advantage of the analysis results. Once the buying patterns have been identified, the retailer can use this information to form a marketing strategy for each type of buyer. Visualization offers powerful human information processing capabilities. Applying visualization to most data sets lets you quickly find important patterns or emerging trends that might otherwise go undetected. In this paper, we present an agent-based system architecture for information retrieval and visualization on the Internet. This paper presents a unified view of the field, focusing on the development of a multi-agent-based problem-solving strategy. Important features of our architecture are the use of mobile agents as a device for searching and navigating through distributed data, and the ability to present results using visual techniques.
