Industrial Computed Tomography (CT) is the only non-destructive measurement method to capture both inner and outer structures of a specimen, allowing to perform inspection tasks and dimensional measurements. Image artefacts decrease the quality of CT scans and impair the reliability of inspection results and measurement protocols. Artefacts are mainly caused by physical effects of photon matter interaction. By optimizing the orientation of a specimen, the extent of artefacts can be reduced. Fixtures for an optimal orientation are automatically generated by means of additive manufacturing. For a use case specimen, strong artefacts were shown in the CT scan considering the worst orientation, which could be reduced severely in the best orientation.
