Titel
Mechanical and Permeation Properties of PHA-Based Blends and Composites
Abstract
This chapter describes the mechanical and permeation properties of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA). The method of processing has a decisive bearing on these properties. In order to tailor specific properties, such as flexibility, the effects of different additives on PHA have been studied and are described in the literature. These additives can be low molecular weight plasticisers, blend partners, compatibilisers, crosslinkers or fillers. This chapter gives an overview of the effects of these additives on the properties of PHA-based films. Effective additives can reduce the crystallinity and strength of the films and increase their flexibility and permeability.
