More than 50 glycols and glycol derivatives were studied by GC/MS-analysis. The mass spectra were recorded with and without subtraction of background, the retention indices were calculated from an alkane family (C5 - C 16). All data were compiled into the database WKIGLYCOL, which is available in the HP-MS library format. When analyzing the mass spectra of unknown samples by use of the probability based matching system (PBM), the match quality was always better than 85 %.
