Magnetic and acoustic methods for the material state characterization of steel plates
Abstract

For the construction of car bodies today thin sheet qualities of different strength-classes are used. The forming properties of cold rolled sheet is mainly expressed by the mechanical properties, e. g. the yield strength or the plastic anisotropy (r-value). In oder to procure and demonstrate the homogeneous properties of steel strips, a complete monitoring and controlling of technological parameters (e. g. temperatures, geometries, degree of rolling) on the one hand and destructive random sample tests on the other hand are state of the art. Nevertheless it would be usefull to perform a characterisation and documentation of the material parameters during the production process. Non-destructive methods for process control offer a way to solve this problem. Different concepts have therefore been developed and partly been tested sucessfully at different steelmakers during the production of steel sheet. This paper gives an overview of the state of the art of the methods available today and a link to the needs and possibilities of further developments.
