Abstract
Screen printing of hot melt ink on the front side of silicon solar cells is investigated. Optimised printing settings like snap distance, blade pressure as well as temperature settings for the heated screen, the squeegees and the print nest have been found. Different silver containing hot melt inks were printed and optically and electrically evaluated in respect to the finger width and height and also the specific contact and line resistivity. For the latest ink from Ferro an impressive high aspect (height to width) ratio of 1 to 3 could be achieved, reducing the line resistance and hence the total series resistance of the solar cell. Due to this optimisation fill factors above 80% could be reached. The specific contact resistance was determined to be below 1x10-3 ohm cm2 due to the improved firing process found for this ink, thus not significantly reducing the solar cell performance. Efficiencies up to 18.0% and 15.6% on 123x123 mm2 sized mono- and multi crystalline silicon solar cells respectively were achieved. Fine line printing of hot melt ink keeping a high aspect ratio has been attained, first solar cells processed.
