Titel
Numerical assessment of rotating railway components
Abstract
Nowadays, the durability assessment is supported by FEM analyses. Furthermore, a reliable pre-design of safety-critical rotating railway components like wheels requires realistic customer usage conditions. The corresponding load conditions and load spectra also have to be taken into account. In this paper a method and adequate software tool are presented. The tool is an add-on to FE-software. Realistic load application, customer usage conditions and material data are taken into account. Main results of the calculations are local Required Fatigue Strength (RFS) values. Achieving these RFS values by using suitable design, material and manufacturing technology leads to optimally dimensioned components. Exemplarily, numerical results are presented demonstrating the benefits of the method, which forms a reliable approach for the development of rotating railway components.
