Titel
Development of a composite wheel with integrated hub motor and requirements on safety components in composite
Abstract
Lightweight design is becoming increasingly important for automotive engineering. Fibre reinforced plastics (FRPs) have a wide range of advantages compared to metal‐based materials, in addition to the weight saving aspect. In addition to the development of a safety component in composites with all its challenges, the development of adapted testing methods for composite wheels is essential. This chapter describes the development of a wheel of carbon fibre reinforced plastics with an integrated electric motor. It discusses the challenges and requirements of vehicle wheels made from composites, and demonstrates the development of a composite wheel with an integrated electrical motor. Through a number of examples, the requirements and difficulties of reliability analysis of multifunctional systems are shown.
