The effect of furniture materials on the fire load in offices
Abstract

Office furniture made of wood and wood based materials yield a great effect on the total fire load in offices the scope of which has not been known fully as yet. It was the aim of the present paper to determine the share of different types of office furniture (made of wood and wood based materials on the one hand and steel on the other) in the total fire load in alternative office rooms (conventional type of office and average open-plan office). The effect of office equipment, contents of furniture and built-in furniture (files and documents), office machines, office utensils and the furniture itself on the total fire load was determined. In addition, alternative working place areas frequently found in offices were investigated with regard to their fire load.
