Abstract
Prevailing tire models show a certain lack of accuracy in some advanced handling applications. This lack of accuracy is partly due to thermal effects. In reality, the tire rubber temperature is not constant during these operating conditions and the tire’s friction coefficient, the cornering/braking stiffnesses and the rubber properties depend on the temperature level. In order to increase the accuracy of the tire model also in conditions with higher slip, Fraunhofer ITWM has developed the thermo-dynamical model CDTire/Thermal. This thermal model can be coupled with the enhanced magic formula CDTire/MF++, which implements a temperature dependency (see [1]).The necessary measurements and the parameter identification procedure represent always a crucial point for any mathematical model. Through this paper the authors propose a design of experiment suitable for an MTS flat track test bench. By using these measurement most of the Thermo-mechanical physical quantities can be estimated.
