This paper describes the work performed within the Multi-GNSS Simulation & Test Environment - MGSE project (ESA Contract: 4000116130) by TeleOrbit GmbH, Germany, Fraunhofer-IIS, Germany and TeleConsult Austria GmbH, Austria. Within the last decade, Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) have gained an important position within our daily life, which is often hidden from plain sight. The fact that GNSS is not only used for positioning but also for timing, synchronisation of GSM networks, electricity management or bank transfers is not commonly known. Furthermore, a combination of GNSS and Satellite Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS) like EGNOS (European GNSS Overlay Service), is already used for different GNSS applications. The objective of the development was to create a novel GNSS simulation environment that provides the possibility and flexibility to use both: synthetically generated data and recorded real-world samples - both exactly reproducible. Such a tool considerably improves the development, qualification, and certification process of GNSS receivers within development and for validation/certification in end-to-end tests. The MGSE system consists of three basic elements. - MGSE GIPSIE® Simulation Unit: Provides simulated and synthetically generated data* - MGSE GTEC © Recording Unit: Provides received and recorded real-world GNSS data* - MGSE GTEC © Replaying Unit: Provides replayed digital GNSS IF and/or analog RF data* The paper presents the results of the MGSE project, including first results of the test and validation campaign. It also discusses jamming detection, classification and localisation as well as spoofing simulation capabilities of the MGSE setup.
