Titel
A light-weight approach to capture relevant quality characteristics to focus quality assurance
Abstract
High quality of software is one of the decisive factors for successful busi-ness. Consequently, many software projects spend 50% and more of their total efforts to ensure high software quality. It seems a common practice that companies try to optimize as many qualities of the software as possible with the available efforts to achieve "best" quality. This is not a problem as long as the typical process configurations always fully satisfy all product and pro-ject requirements. However, this is in many organizations not possible over a long period of time, especially in small and medium sized enterprises with limited resources. Consequently, quality assurance efforts should be fo-cused on those final product qualities that are of highest importance for the project success. However, often the relevant quality attributes are unclear and implicitly known by some experts who are not necessarily involved in quality assurance activities. This report presents a light-weight approach to capture relevant quality attributes of the final product in a given project con-text. Applying the approach provides a quality profile of the software product. Quality managers and project leaders can use this profile as a means for planning the quality assurance activities in their development context. We present a case study where we used the approach to gather the quality pro-file of a company.
