Typical architectures represent high-level solutions to problem applications. However, when examining problems in detail, they are seen to be a set of fine-grained solutions to situations that occur frequently. This is the well-known idea of design patterns that has been adapted to this methodology. Here, they are called pearls and apply to a series of different stages of problem decomposition:
- architectural patterns
- design patterns
- technological solutions
- lessons learned
In this chapter a number of pearls that can be used in wireless architectures are described using a common documentation structure.
This chapter has a reference style, and does not require sequential reading. Each pearl is defined in terms of its:
- Context
- Problem
- Solution
- Design rationale
The reader uses the pearls by example, applying them as necessary to an individual project when the contexts of the pearl and the project match.
