Abstract
DE 19713469 C UPAB: 19981111 This is an original combustion gas analyser, used e.g. at the site of a fire. The pump (P1) extracts the gas mixture, supplying it to a line (1) with sensors (2) for gas component(s). The flow then passes to an absorber (A1), where it is mixed with basic, acidic and/or organic absorbent from storage (7). This takes specific gas component(s) into solution. The photometric cell(s) (Z1) determine component concentration(s) from spectral measurements of the solution. A further unit records, processes and displays the measurement(s) USE - To measure gases produced e.g. at the site of a fire. ADVANTAGE - The system offers rapid, reliable and continuous or quasi-continuous operation. It determines numbers of organic and inorganic gas components. It has a low reagent consumption, noting that micropumps are used. The method improves on known, e.g. semiconductor, sensors used for quantitative measurement, by avoiding cross-sensitivities, i.e. each determination is component-specific. Thus cyanides and halogens may be determined positively. On absorption, components are converted to a compound which can be determined at ultraviolet and/or visible wavelengths. Compact micro-construction of the unit is achieved.
