Abstract
DE 19730502 A UPAB: 19990302 Use of DNA derived from coconut foliar decay virus (CFDV) as a promoter for expression of genes in bacteria and fungi, especially yeasts, where the DNA has the structure shown below (see figure, which shows a circular single-stranded DNA molecule with a stem-loop structure, 6 putative ORFs and a XhoI site; the nucleotide sequence is not given, but see Virology, 176, 648, 1990). Also claimed are: (1) the use of fragments of CFDV DNA as promoters for gene expression in bacteria and fungi; and (2) transformed bacterial and fungal cells obtained using the CFDV DNA or fragments as above. USE - The CFDV DNA fragments are useful as promoters for gene expression in bacteria and fungi. ADVANTAGE - Certain fragments of CFDV DNA have stronger promoter activity in E. coli than the CaMV 35S promoter.
