Abstract
This paper deals with a special actuating solution of a micro-actuated precision gripper with an integrated tilt function. This gripper is the key component of a highest precision assembly system for the accurate alignment of light emitting or receiving modules in front of buried waveguides inside optical circuit boards. For the high precision angle adjustment, a novel tilt-module with solid state joints was developed. For actuating the tilt-module, a modified mini-servo drive, working with the Harmonic Driveâ principle, is being used. It enables a high resolution movement in an automated assembly procedure. Some interesting facts about the transmission behavior and results of experimental testing will be presented and discussed in this paper.
