Titel
Challenges and ideas for IoT testing
Abstract
Several IoT reference models and hundreds of technical reports on IoT use cases, device categories, and test scenarios, etc. from multiple standardization bodies are available. They are published or drafts are in preparation for an IoT community of a large number of manufacturers and end-users. Multiple companies and open source groups are inviting to use their protocol stacks, application frameworks, and platforms. The IoT community learnt about the new challenges like security, interoperability, resource limitations and have to select from a huge number of tools and environment configurations that ones that allow to check the quality of their IoT devices or infrastructures. It is time to apply advanced test strategies, solutions, test automation and equipment in private test campaigns and interop events open for interested parties. Fraunhofer FOKUS together with industrial partners have started to provide users with prepared test equipment dedicated to IoT testing. Currently we are concentrating on two technical case studies from the automotive and industrial production domain. For example we are focusing on challenges with processes from a modular shop-floor-IT for product constructions supported by some stock. The other example is about a cloud-based IoT platform. We include technology especially from advanced research projects and open source groups to improve the quality and to reduce costs.
