IDNS - Towards the Integration of Public and Commercial Services in Citizen Centered Digital Networks
Abstract
Public administration services are important for nearly all citizens as well as for companies and institutions. In the past, it has been a time-consuming and often frustating work to deal with public authorities. Centralised structures of the administration and old-fashioned communication techniques are still a major problem for modern, customer-oriented public services. Even worse, citizens still get little help from the administrations and have to organise the co-operation of public institutions and private companies on their own. But things begin to change now. The wide-spread use of up-to-date technology, e.g. computers and the Internet, as well as the co-operation with the private sector, like commercial companies, is evolving rapidly. Currently, an innovative approach to this field in under development by the City of Darmstadt, Germany, in co-operation with IDNS-Administration.Com, a Darmstadt-based start-up company, and the Computer Graphics Center (ZGDV).
