Abstract
New requirements to production engineering arise from information-communication technologies and big data. Customers do ask for innovative, personalized, high quality and low cost products in shorter delivery time. This requires resource efficient and sustainable manufacturing concepts.
Digital technologies called "Industrie 4" were implemented in science and industry. Real industry and virtual reality are combined for the Internet of Things, new services and continuous data flow. This paper presents the demand in new manufacturing concepts, the "Industrie 4.0" solution potential, new trends in production engineering and first application results. One R&D focus lies in intelligent maintenance concepts for forming processes and metal cutting machine tools. Simulation, multi-sensor acquisition and their correlation are combined for condition monitoring and service life prediction strategies. Another R&D priority is the automated quality test for products. A customized automatic inspection system for artefacts is required for geometrical and surface characteristics on metal products in order to support the operator. Test systems of the manufacturing equipment under process conditions are requested in order to increase the product accuracy through digital correction and compensation strategies.
