Titel
A service-oriented, extensible architecture for information retrieval
Abstract
Time and information became the most precious resources in today's business. One problem for knowledge workers is the information overload, making it harder to find the right information on demand. They spend about 25% of their time looking for information. Hence, Information Retrieval processes used nowadays seem to be not very efficient. This thesis describes an Information Retrieval architecture, trying to solve problems in retrieval. It offers a single point of access for retrieval to all electronically stored information. Hence, it offers a transparency layer in Information Retrieval. The list of contents covered is extensible. A plug-in approach allows flexible extension and adoption to specific retrieval problems. The retrieval itself can be based on existing or self-generated indexes. Furthermore, this architecture is scalable and allow distribution of its components over networks.
