Abstract
This paper discusses interrelations of power sources and CO2 sources which are fundamental for a systematically and environmentally reasonable use of the power-to-gas long-term storage concept. From a systematic point of view the charging power in different system situations and the role of the CO2 source for the methanation are evaluated. The balance of CO2-emissions for the process from power to gas and re-conversion to electricity shows that only the use of renewable energy in combination with CO2 without emission responsibility obtains an ecological system benefit compared with the emissions of fossil peak load power.
