Abstract
What is ETCC? ETCC – European Technical Coatings Congress – is since 2012 the successor of the former well known FATIPEC congresses. It is held biannually in different member countries of the FATIPEC member states. From 3 to 5 September 2014, this congress was held in “GUERZENICH” in Cologne/Germany and attracted approximately 500 participants. It was organized commonly by three parties: FATIPEC, the German FATIPEC member “GDCh Fachgruppe Lackchemie”, and the German FATIPEC member VILF (“Verband der Ingenieure des Lack- und Farbenfachs e.V.”).
ETCC 2014 was a big success. The congress was organized in three parallel sessions including two plenary lectures. A total of 85 lectures with keynote speeches and more than 40 posters in a separate poster session contributed to the high scientific level of this meeting. The scientific committees comprising the national scientific committee (NSC) and the European scientific committee (ESC) structured the congress into seven different major topics:
•Functional coatings.
•Corrosion protection.
•Sustainability in the coatings field.
•Polymers, pigments and other raw materials.
•Advances in coatings and ink sciences.
•Progress in production, application and processes.
•Measuring and testing.

 

An approach to modify the properties of UV curable polyurethane coatings by altering the amount and functionality of acrylic reactive diluents, in order to optimize the coating performance, is demonstrated. Based on the rheology analysis, a model of the rheological behavior of the UV curable materials depending on the amount and type of a reactive diluent in the composition is demonstrated in this study. The relationships between the rheological behavior, the mechanical properties and adhesion of the coatings prepared from polyurethane UV curable compositions containing different amounts and functionalities of acrylic reactive diluents, have been investigated and discussed in this study. Based on the results of the study, the desired properties of UV cured coatings can be modeled and controlled without changing the nature of a particularly selected oligomer, thus maintaining the advantages of its chemical structure in a coating composition.
