Competetion and constant cost pressure as well as introduced emission regulations pose challenges for shipping companies. The wind driven hybrid merchant vessel concept Vindskip presents an innovative approach to ensure sustainable sea transport. Due to its hull shaped like a symmetrical air foil above the waterline an aerodynnamic lift is generated acting as a propulsive force. In order to utilize the available wind energy during each voyage as efficiently as possible Vindskip requires a customized weather routing module. This paper describes its development in line with the specific requirements of Vindskip.
