Industrie 4.0. A Contribution to the Development of "Smart Networks"
Abstract

So far, smart networks are still a vision and many companies are yet in its infancy in terms of seamless data availability. First the depicted preconditions have to be fulfilled at all levels of the network - comprising the strategic, tactical and operational level. This applies primarily to avoid media breaks and incompatibilities between production sites and to aggregate the local site data on a global level through appropriate interfaces. Only then an interconnection between production sites and thus a development from Smart Factories to Smart Networks is possible. The result is a transparent and in real-time controllable production network. This allows for the exploitation of the indicated potentials and for the generation of additional competitive advantages, such as specification of site roles, productivity measurement and comparison of sites, ideal allocation of products and compensation of capacity fluctuations.
