Sintering of hartmetals: Thermoanalytical simulation

Sintern von Hartmetallen - Thermoanalytische Simulation
Abstract
The application of thermoanalytical simulation for the sintering of hardmetals is discussed. Hardmetals are used as cutting or wear materials and their production is based on the powder metallurgical route. It is found that sintering takes place in presence of a liquid phase that is formed by the eutectic between cobalt and solved tungsten and carbon. The carbon balance plays an important role for the formation of the properties of the sintered hardmetal at the sintering temperature. Process knowledge of factors which influence the carbon balance during the heating cycle is important for the optimization of technological process steps.
