To ensure the structural durability and the safety of welded structures, in addition to the service loading, decisive design and influencing parameters such as geometry, modelling of details, multiaxial stress states and cumulative damage must be taken into account. The safety factors to be used depend not only on the severity of failure causes to be prevented but also on the reliability of the applied design methods. In this context the accuracy of selected local concepts, i.e. hot-spot, notch stress and crack propagation, are contrasted by the example of offshore K-nodes.
