This article deals with tactical distribution network planning. Tactical distribution network planning addresses the periodic reconfiguration of the distribution processes, for example in monthly or quarterly intervals. Although tactical distribution network planning is substantial to maintain efficiency and performance of a distribution system, it experiences only little IT-system-based decision support today. A solution approach is described making use of suitable optimization models and simulation in a combined system. Simulation enables evaluation of the system's performance and costs in great detail. Thus, a simulation model is applied to exactly analyze and evaluate measures and plans derived from optimization.
