Special: Waste to energy... Pre-gasification increases the potential of substitute fuels

Abstract
Direct combustion of biogenic wastes or substitute fuels is very difficult to control since various compositions and moisture contents result in too large variations in the calorific value. A technically elegant solution to those problems was proposed, which involves preliminary gasification of the solid fuel and subsequent burning of the combustible gas thus obtained. The new technology was successfully tested using a pilot plant.
