Press hardening has become a fully established technology in both science and industry for the production of ultra-high-strength structural components. To ensure that it remains competitive, new fields of research will have to be tapped. The article delves into the main subjects of research on press hardening, presents examples of technically interesting solutions, describes the competitive situation and predicts the course of developments. It continues to present current developments in the production of property-graded press hardened components as well as intelligent process management for press hardening.
In production engineering, there are two major approaches to improve resource efficiency - efficiency increase in product manufacturing - efficiency increase in product operation.
The research described here considers these approaches. Examples which will be presented include reduction of part costs and part weight by using this innovative technology.
