Abstract
The invention relates to an electrocaloric assembly, wherein an elastically deformable electrocaloric element is arranged between a first housing part, which forms a heat source, and a second housing part, which forms a heat sink, or is clamped or retained between the two housing parts. A respective planar electrode is formed on each of two opposite surfaces of the electrocaloric element. The electrodes are connected to an alternating voltage source that can be controlled in an open-loop or closed-loop manner or a voltage source that can be operated in a pulsed manner. The electrocaloric element is composed of an electromechanically coupled, in particular ferroelectric or piezoelectric material and is designed and dimensioned in such a way that the electrocaloric element lies against a surface of the first or second housing part in a planar manner when the voltage is switched off and deforms in such a way that the electrocaloric element lies against a surface of the first housing part or the second housing part in a planar manner when voltage is applied to the electrodes of the electrocaloric element.
