Acoustic performance of absorbers embedded in thermally activated concrete ceilings in a two dimensional periodic pattern
Abstract
Thermally activated concrete ceilings are often used in new office building in central Europe. Ordinary room acoustic measures in such cases are suspended sails or baffles. Frequently these do not meet architectural or economical demands. An alternative measure consists of periodically integrated absorbers into the concrete ceilings. Periodically arranged strips have proofed acoustically and thermally functional. In this work two dimensional periodically arranged absorbers stacked in different ways in the concrete and covered with one or more different porous plaster layers are treated. The focus is set on a theoretical model for describing the sound fields in the absorber field cavities, the plaster layers and the adjacent half-space of air is presented. It relies on the Bloch Theorem which is used for describing the sound fields. Sound scattering and absorbing features of periodically arranged structures are discussed. Theoretical predictions comply reasonably well with measured results at normal and field incidence.
