Abstract
Conductive metal inks and their development are subjects of high interest in the growing market of printed electronics. The main challenge for the inks is reaching high conductivity at low temperatures for using flexible and temperature sensitive substrates. This work is focused on nano metal particles (Ag, Au, Pt, Cu) inks for direct writing methods like inkjet and aerosol printing. In the particle synthesis the influence of different metal precursors and syntheses parameters was analysed. By controlling these parameters during the water based preparation it is possible to vary the mean particle sizes as well as the surfactant layer around the nano particles. It is shown that the surfactant layer determines the beginning of the sintering of the ink layer. By variation of the surfactant type the sintering temperature is directly influenced. The water based ink presented in this paper reached an already good conductivity after drying at room temperature and attained a three time bulk resistance after firing at 150 °C for five minutes.
