Titel
Improved BER performance in GSM by mitigating non-linear distortions in the receiver
Abstract
This paper addresses non-linearly induced interference in GSM receiver, as well as its mitigation by using digital signal processing. Receiver non-linearities can cause an increase in the bit error rate, hence reducing the reliability of mobile communication due to dropped calls or even the loss of connectivity to the serving base station. The focus here is on mitigating non-linear distortions in the receiver in order to improve the bit error rate performance of a distorted GSM channel. A feed-forward algorithm with an adaptive filter has been implemented and applied to real measurement data containing a weak distorted desired GSM channel and two strong GSM neighbouring channels. The obtained results show that the bit error rate is reduced significantly by alleviating the effects of receiver non-linearity.
