rapid product development; RAPTIA

The aim of this EU supported thematic network - RAPTIA - is to facilitate a platform for exchange of knowledge and experience, and to perform a research survey on trends and needs in Rapid Prototyping & Tooling (RP&T) developments with a focus on industrial applications. The goal of the research project - IMS Rapid Product Development - is to accelerate product development processes for mechanical parts by providing tools and methods for rapid manufacturing of physical parts. The project will comprise the realisation of a substantially improved process chain starting with physical or digital product models and leading to validated physical parts made of mass production materials in small or medium sized series. This will be realised by developing innovative reverse engineering and rapid tooling technologies. Depending on the target industry, a cost and lead time reduction up to 40% is expected.
