Titel
Mechanical in situ testing of closed cell rigid polymer foams via computed tomography
Abstract
The use of polymer foams as core material of high loadable light weight sandwich structures for example in wind turbine blades and primary aircraft structures requires extensive knowledge about their mechanical behaviour. The mechanical characterization has to take into account that closed polymer foams exhibit an internal cellular structure consisting of cell walls, struts, and vertices which contributes to the mechanical behaviour. In order to describe this microstructure the morphology of a range of ROHACELL® foams was imaged spatially by X-ray tomography. Subsequently, the resulting 3d images were analysed using MAVI [1].
