Integration of environmental criteria into simulation-based postponement decisions
Abstract
Postponement represents a major practice in supply chain management to improve logistic objectives. As environmental aspects gained relevance, e.g. due to increasing energy costs or the introduction of emission trading schemes, "green" indicators and assessment methods were attached by previous contributions. However, this integration lacks the support of the complete decision process on postponement strategies because postponement options are environmentally assessed subsequent to the actual decision process. Thus, this paper aims to fully integrate green criteria by proposing an intra-simulative balancing approach enabling the evaluation of ecology-based decision strategies. Based on a brief literature survey, methodological enhancements and practical implementations in an established supply chain simulation are described and validated in a use case.
