Title
Modelling and dynamical simulation of laser beam welding
Abstract
Laser beam welding is a thermal joining process widely used in welding of tailored blanks and contour welding applications. However, there are gaps in understanding the dynamics of the process, especially related to the weld quality. This work describes the advances in fundamental physical modelling and mathematical analysis of the Free Boundary Problem as well as monitoring and control of time varying processes such as contour welding. The acceleration/deacceleration of the melt film by evaporation/recondensation and the flow of metal vapor are the physical phenomena relevant to the formation of pores in the weld seam. The dynamic model predicts the formation of pores sets in or is suspended depending on modulation frequency for the laser power.
