Title

Real-time closed-loop control by high-speed image processing optimises laser welding

Other Title
Echtzeit-Regelung mittels schneller Bildverarbeitung optimiert das Laserschweißen
Abstract
It is hard to imagine modern manufacturing without laser welding processes. These allow fast and flexible welding in vehicle body construction at points that cannot be easily accessed. Nevertheless, for the sake of quality assurance, the problem of real-time process control for optimised manufacturing methods has not been satisfactorily solved until now. Here, we describe how a novel camera technology allows the compensation of inevitable process fluctuations, thus ensuring the quality of the weld seam.
