With the growth of air traffic, as well as the changing business models, technological developments and new service models at airports, the passenger volume rises constantly in German airports. Thus the security of the airport infrastructure and its passengers is given special priority. The airport infrastructure represents a particularly critical element of the national economy. We must take the necessary precautions against potential threats, because the infrastructure is connected directly with the development of the national security situation. Therefore the airport is tasked with harmonizing the constantly growing safety requirements with a justifiable expenditure for the passengers. This paper describes the scientific goals, ongoing work and initial results of a research project on critical infrastructure security.
