Nitromethane (CH3NO2, NM) is the simplest nitroalkane and readily available. Due to the small molecular size of NM it should be able to penetrate into the tubes of carbon nano tubes (CNTs). Wang et al. already postulated theoretically that NM encapsulated in the tubes of CNTs should have a lower thermal decomposition temperature in comparison to pure NM. We investigated this issue in practice by using high pressure crucibles for differential scanning calorimeters
