Abstract
By the use of thermoelectric generators (TEG), waste energy from heat sources can be recovered and directly converted to electricity. Due to the fact that the maximum working temperature of common used semiconductor materials is limited, conductive ceramic materials such as TiOx (x < 2) are tested for the temperature range above 500 °C. For designing TEG-modules working in a temperature range up to 700 °C new metallisation strategies for joining and surface coatings for the thermoelectric materials have to be developed and tested. Different kinds of metallisation, such as silver pastes, active metal brazes and several metals like copper, nickel and molybdenum are investigated in order to gain reliable joints with low ohmic losses. Additionally the oxidation of the TiOx-material was examined and the protective effect of different environmental barrier coatings made of glass and Al2O3 is demonstrated by high temperature oxidation experiments.
